Lesson 3: Conducting Pest Risk Assessment for Trade

In Lesson 1, we introduced you to the stages of PRA, Stage 1: initiation; Stage 2: risk assessment, which consists of pest categorization and assessments of the likelihood and consequences of pest introduction; and Stage 3: risk management.

The main emphasis of this lesson is on the steps of the pest risk assessment stage of the PRA. (The pest risk management stage of the PRA is described in Module 6.) By the end of this lesson, the student will have learned about initiating a pest risk assessment, estimating the likelihood of the pest’s introduction, and assessing the consequences of the pest’s establishment.
